Rapid
prototyping
We provide many of our customers
these days with support in the concept development
phase. Our offering therefore also includes the
delivery of prototypes.
The advantage of the rapid prototyping method of
producing prototypes is that it involves very short
delivery times for the first fully functional prototype
components. The procedures involved are focused
solely on producing a mold and core with materials
which are close to the serial production materials.
Here the foundry makes sure that the rapid prototyping
process is used in the most sensible way. Production
conditions and restrictions to be taken into consideration
in serial production are therefore accounted for
at the outset in prototype production and –
in the case of complex core assemblies, for example
– even tested. This ensures that potential
production-related surprises which might emerge
at the start of serial production are eliminated
in advance.
The time advantage offered by rapid prototyping
often compensates by a long way for the relatively
high piece costs of the prototypes. Capital investment
in tools which turn out to be unsuitable for serial
production is therefore eliminated at the prototype
stage, and this opens up new possibilities for developers.
For example, the suitability of different draft
designs can be investigated in technical tests so
that a well-informed decision can be made as to
which is the best solution.
